Friends of Art Membership
The University of New Mexico Art Museum Friends of
Art are people interested in promoting art in New Mexico. Our efforts allow
people throughout the world to enjoy our acquisitions. Friends of Art have
for over a quarter century, played a key role in maintaining the quality
of the collections at the University of New Mexico Art Museum and its Jonson
Gallery.
Friends of Art Members receive:
- Invitations to special members-only preview receptions
- Invitations to local, national and international tours to art centers
- Invitations to artist studio tours
- Invitations to lectures and other special events sponsored by the Friends
of Art
- A subscription to the Friends of Art newsletter
- Opportunities to join committees with special focuses
Friends of Art Members participate in acquisitions of exceptional
works of art:
- Our 17th century Spanish bust of Christ was honored by the Gazette
de Beaux-Arts as one of the outstanding worldwide museum acquisitions.
- The Vision of the Seven Candlesticks, and
Albrecht Dürer work
of 1511, was the first Dürer woodcut to join our notable graphics
collection.
- Corn Ceremony, a gelatin silver print by Karl Moon, c. 1910, includes
Moon's handwritten notations which demonstrate his dramatic aims.
- 1 Cent Left is a splendid 1964 portfolio of lithographs, with works
by Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Claes Oldesnburg, James Rosenquist,
Andy Warhol, et. al.
- Milites Requiescents (Resting Soldiers) of 1555-1560, after Pieter
Bruegel the Elder, is a significant recent purchase.
- Friends of Art have purchased extraordinary works of art in the last
quarter century adding to our already impressive permanent collections.
