Visiting the Art Museum

Directions
The UNM Art Museum is located within the Center for the Arts complex off of Redondo Drive near the UNM Bookstore. From I-25 North or South, exit Central Avenue and travel east for approximately 1 mile. Parking is available at the Parking Garage, east of the Center for the Arts at Central and Stanford. >> See Map

Tuesday - Saturday: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Closed on Sundays, Mondays and major holidays

Admission is FREE and open to the public, a $5 donation is suggested to support exhibitions

Policies and Questions

Cell Phones
Q: Is cell phone use allowed in the Museum?

A: Museum policy states no cell phone usage in the Museum


Photography

Q:  What are the policies on taking photographs with any device, including cell phone cameras, video cameras, or digital cameras?

A: There is no photography allowed in the Art Museum


Accessibility

Q: Is the Museum accessible for disabled visitors or children in strollers?

A: Yes. All public areas of the museum are wheelchair and stroller accessible via elevator or special entry. We are also happy to hold your stroller at the front desk while you visit the museum.


Bags and Oversized Articles
Q: Do I have to check our bags at the reception desk?

A: All backpacks, large purses and other oversized articles must be checked at reception. They will be held securely and you will be provided with a claim ticket for retrieval.


Note Taking
Q: May I take notes in the galleries?

A: Yes, only with pencils, not pens.


Group Visits
Q: Is the Museum available for group visits?

A: The Museum requires groups of larger than 10 visitors to schedule a guided visit with our Education staff. Please contact the museum’s Education Office (Sara Otto-Diniz) at 277-4010 preferably two weeks in advance of your field trip date. See our Education Page on website for more information.

Q:  How do I obtain information about the Museum’s public programs?

A:  Contact the Museum’s front desk at 505 277-4001, click on the Events link, or check kiosk at Museum entrance.


Donations

Q: I want to make a donation to the Museum's collections. How do I initiate this?

A: Acquisitions are based on our mission statement and our specific collections focus. Please contact the director, curator, or collections manager for more detailed information.


Appraisals

Q: How do I find out what my object is worth?

A: The Museum does not provide appraisals of any objects. Please consult a licensed appraiser to determine the value of your objects. The following are some links to a variety of professional appraisal organizations.

Conservation
Q: Does the Museum provide information on conservation?

A: The UNM Art Museum does not provide conservation services to the public. Please consult the American Institute of Conservation website for more information: http://aic.stanford.edu/.


Museum Rental

Q:  Can I rent space in the Museum for private parties or special events?

A: The Museum is only available for events sponsored by the College of Fine Arts or/or related to our current exhibitions and programs. 


The Jonson Gallery
Q: Where is the Jonson Gallery located now?

A: The Jonson Gallery which houses the most definitive collection of the works of Raymond Jonson has moved from its original location on Las Lomas to the Lower Gallery of the Art Museum.
